Pioneers of Flight - The Men, The Women, The Planes

This set is currently in stock

During the early part of the 20th Century the development of manned flight was pioneered by a select band of men and women. In those days flying further than the next field could be an achievement.

'Famous Airmen and Airwomen' is a complete set of 50 Cigarette Cards first issued in 1936 by Carreras. A set that illustrates the develpment of manned flight and shows all of the important pioneers of flight together with the aircraft they flew during the early part of the 20th Century. Three of the most famous pioneers are shown here but there are many more heroes of early flight included in this set.

Lois Bleriot was an early aviation pioneer; successfully building planes and then flying them - across the English Channel in 1909 as well as at International Race Meetings.

Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly the Atlantic when she crossed from Newfoundland to Wales in 1928. Among her achievements are included the Pacific Flight of 1935.

Charles Lindbergh was born in 1902 and later made the first solo flight across the Atlantic from New York to Paris in 1927.
